This well maintained 1974 P26 in Stamford is a wonderful opportunity to get out on the water with your young family in classic Alberg design. The Pearson 26 is one of the early fin keel, spade rudder designs which translates to an easily sailed and easily handled, wonderful day sailor or weekender great for a family of four. Equipped with a modern Yanmar 8hp long shaft 4 stroke outboard and largely new rigging and sails, this boat is turnkey ready to go.
On deck she is fitted out with Lewmar winches and a CDI roller furling gear, brand new Dacron 135% Genoa with state of the art foam luff, and a nearly new full batten Dacron mainsail with lazy jacks and a brand new Davis windex. The standing and running rigging has been carefully gone over this past spring and much was replaced along with new sails etc. The new Fortress anchor hangs on the bow rail out of harms way so it does not foul the jib sheets.
The rudder has been fitted with a stainless steel post. The tiller replaced with a new wood laminate tiller with a tiller tamer. The solid fiberglass hull is sound and the balsa cored deck has no apparent dead spots. The fin keel is tight, bolts are in excellent condition. This is an extremely dry boat.
The house current is 12 volts with new battery and the entire electrical system is reportedly replaced in 2010..
Below, forward is a comfortable and private vee berth with what appears to be the original vinal covered cushions in excellent condition. The porti pottie head and hanging locker separate the forward cabin from the main saloon which sports a dinette to port and a bunk to starboard. Aft on either side of the companionway is the galley area. This is a comfortable weekend cruiser for a family of four sleeping in berths below. The cabin is dry, no seepage or drips when the weather is wet.
The bottom was gone over in the spring of 2010, old paint sanded off, and two coats CPP Plus antifouling paint newly applied.
This is not the newest P26 I have handled, but it is surely one of the cleaned and best kept. The new rigging, sails, and outboard make it likely the best value in the small cruiser/day sailor class out there today. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of our beautiful September and October New England sailing in an easily handled inexpensive classic design.
